Addition and subtraction sheets sized to the range your child is at

Workbooks jump levels when they feel like it. A generator lets you print twenty pages at exactly the range your child is at.

Every workbook I have bought has the same flaw. The first ten pages are too easy, and page eleven jumps to something my daughter has not met. A generator fixes this because you set the range yourself and can print twenty pages at exactly the right level, then move the range up one notch when she is ready and not before.

What the sheet looks like

The addition and subtraction worksheet generator is deliberately plain. Choose Addition (+), Subtraction (−) or Mixed. Pick a number range: 0–10 for Pre-K, 0–20 for kindergarten and first grade, 0–50 or 0–100 for second grade. Set the layout to Stacked (vertical) or Horizontal, and put 12, 16, 20, 24, 28 or 32 problems on the page. An answer key prints if you tick it, and every regenerate is a fresh set within those limits.

Twelve problems come out large with room to work underneath. Thirty-two is timed-drill density, and the type is still readable.

Why it works

  • Subtraction in the 0–20 range never goes below zero, so a six-year-old does not meet a problem they cannot do yet.
  • Stacked layout matches how regrouping will be taught later. Horizontal matches how number sentences are written. Switching between them is a quiet skill of its own.
  • A Mixed page catches the kid who reads the sign without looking. One subtraction among additions is worth five on their own.

Who it suits

The 0–10 range is for four- and five-year-olds who still count on fingers. 0–100 is a second-grade page, and the generator stops there on purpose, so by third grade you want the regrouping worksheet instead. If a page is a struggle, drop the range rather than the number of problems.

Print the same settings three days running and watch the time come down.
