Graph paper that prints at true size, plus dot, isometric and hex

Long division on plain paper drifts. On half-inch squares, one digit per box, the same child gets it right.

A long division problem on plain paper drifts. The tens end up under the hundreds and the answer is wrong for no mathematical reason. On half-inch squares, one digit per box, the same child gets it right.

What the sheet looks like

The graph paper generator prints at actual size, so a 1 cm square measures 1 cm with a ruler. The square grid comes in 1 cm, 5 mm, 1/2 inch, 1/4 inch and a large 2 cm primary size, with light, medium or dark grey lines and an optional bold line every 5th or 10th. The numbered problem column version puts a strip down the side with problem numbers so a page of sums stays in order.

Then the rest: dot paper, isometric dot and triangle grids for drawing in 3D, hexagon paper, coordinate planes with numbered axes in 1 or 4 quadrants, 10 or 20 per axis, and 1, 2 or 4 planes a page, blank number lines (6 to 12 of them, 10 or 20 spaces each), and polar grids. Margin and title line can be turned on or off, and you set how many pages.

Why it works

  • One digit per box is the simplest place-value scaffold there is. It fixes column drift in multi-digit work without any teaching.
  • True size means the paper doubles as a measuring tool. Count the squares on a 1 cm grid and you have centimeters.
  • Isometric dots make a convincing cube in three minutes, which is how a nine-year-old first gets interested in 3D.

Who it suits

Ages 6 to 14. The 2 cm primary grid is for first and second graders who write large. Half inch is the right size for most multi-digit work in grades 3 to 5. Coordinate planes and polar grids go into middle school. It is not handwriting paper. For plotting practice with points already set, the coordinate grid worksheet comes with the problems filled in.

Check the scale once with a ruler after printing. Browsers love to shrink a page to fit.
