Context Clues Worksheet Generator

Print free context clues worksheets for grades 2–6. Each short sentence puts one vocabulary word in bold with a clue nearby: kids circle its meaning, write the meaning and the clue words they used, name the kind of clue (definition, synonym, antonym or example), or match sentences to a meaning bank. Pick the level, clue types and 6, 8 or 10 sentences a page, with an answer key on a second page.

Clue types to include (tick one or more)

Every sentence hides its meaning in a nearby clue: a definition, a synonym, an antonym, examples, or the general sense of the sentence. Start Grade 2–3 with multiple choice; ask Grade 4–6 to write the meaning and name the clue. The answer key underlines each clue.
