Sound Boxes (Elkonin Boxes) Worksheet Generator - Build It, Write It

Print free sound box worksheets for ages 4–7. Every picture gets one box per sound: tap and dot the sounds and count them, write a sound in each box, build the word with cut-out letter tiles and write it, or fill in the missing first, middle or last sound. Choose CVC words by short vowel, digraphs, blends or a mix, or print blank mats with chip circles.

One box per sound, not per letter: fish is f-i-sh (three boxes), frog is f-r-o-g (four), and a digraph such as sh, ch, th or ck shares one box and one letter tile. Leave the picture names off so the child has to say the word and listen; the answer key names every picture. Start with tap & dot for ages 4–5, then write the sounds with CVC words; digraphs, blends and the mixed set suit Kindergarten and Grade 1.
